Reba Jeannine Gainer Obituary (1928 - 2022)

Reba Jeannine Gainer, 93, passed on June 13, 2022, at her home in Houston, Texas. Better known as Jeannine, she was the widow of Phillip (Phil) Edward Gainer, with whom she shared sixty-nine years of marriage until his death in 2018. Born in Texas City, Texas, Jeannine was the daughter of Burnice Christopher Hunter and Berna Dean Hunter. She was the third of their four children. She graduated from Texas City High School, and worked for Southwestern Bell and the Texas City radio station, where she met the love of her life, Phil. After their marriage she was a wife, homemaker, and the mother of four children. Jeannine and Phil were avid travelers, exploring the United States and Canada in a series of motor homes. Their trips typically included family members - parents, siblings, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. When her mother was 90, they journeyed together to Alaska along the ALCAN Highway. She will be remembered for her kindness, love for her family & friends, and her insatiable enjoyment of train rides and seeing new things. Jeannine was "Aunt Sweetheart" to her entire extended family. Foster brother, Lee Fegette and sisters, Dolrece Camp and Shirley Hasson predeceased her; younger brother, Dick Keith Hunter and wife Kathy survive her. She is also survived by children, Phyllis Esqueda, Cheryl Gainer, Keith Gainer and wife Patty, and Janet Perry; grandchildren, Deanna Greene, Christopher Esqueda and wife Jenny, Hilary Paine and husband Patrick, and Sara Best and husband Jeff; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Greene, Noah Greene and Lilly Grace Esqueda; extended family, and friends. Memorial Services will be held on July 30, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas, 77591. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital or the charity of your choice.
