Lawrence "Larry" Fogarty, Jr. Obituary (1937 - 2022)

Lawrence "Larry" Edward Fogarty, Jr., 85, of Tyler, died peacefully with family by his side on Friday, the 7th of October 2022. A native Houstonian, Larry was raised in Southside Place. As a child, he was an award-winning racer of homing pigeons and excelled at Little League Baseball, playing on the National Championship team in the 1950 Little League World Series at Williamsport Pennsylvania. Ever the scholar, Larry was accepted to The Rice Institute (now Rice University), graduating in 1959 with a degree in Business Administration. The 60's and 70's were a busy and productive time in Larry's life. He earned his CPA and volunteered for and served as a reservist in the Air Force. He rose to the rank of Manager at "big 8" accounting firm Price Waterhouse, and held the title of Vice President at Galveston-Houston Company. He purchased General Plastics and Rubber and built a very successful startup company, Allied Regrinders. The pinnacle of those achievements was his marriage to Janice in 1977. He spent the remainder of his working career building the businesses with Janice. His hobbies included handball, cooking, fishing, gardening and traveling. Larry also enjoyed music and spent time plunking around on the piano and playing the accordion. He retired in 1992 and spent his time with Janice, traveling the US and World and enjoying the peaceful climate of San Miguel, Mexico. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Lawrence Fogarty Sr. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janice; his children, Brian Fogarty and partner Tin Tran, Richard Fleming and wife Johni, Lori Carnes and husband Jay, Lawrence Fogarty III and partner Brian Smith, Sherry Tates, Donna Harding and husband Samuel. He is also survived by grandchildren Spencer Turner, Samuel Tates and Elizabeth Carnes; his brother Charlie Fogarty and wife Senie. The family will receive guests for visitation at ten o'clock, followed by memorial service at eleven o'clock the morning of Saturday, October 15th, at Darst Funeral Home, Kingwood Texas. Following the service, all are invited to gather and greet in the gardens adjacent to the facility.
