Joe Donald Cox Sr. Obituary (1946 - 2012)

Cox, Joe Donald July 29, 1946-December 21, 2012 Joe D. Cox passed away at his home after a long, brave battle with cancer. By his bedside were his wife, Jeanne Cox; daughters, Margo Moore-Whitman and Breanna Cox. Joe was born in Glasgow, KY to parents Bennie and Gladys Cox. He grew up in Kentucky, and the family moved to Tucson, AZ when he was young. He worked various jobs as a young man before joining the US Navy. Joe was a decorated Viet Nam veteran, having served six tours. Joe received numerous awards and citations, traveled worldwide throughout his career and was proud of his service to our country. After his Naval retirement in 1987, he owned a small business for several years in Phoenix, AZ. In 1991, he moved to TX. He had a long and productive career with IPREMS of Houston, TX. He semi-retired in 2011 as Senior Projects Manager in the Environmental Services Division While with the company, he traveled nationwide and built an enormous customer and friend base. Called 'The Top Man' in his field by many, he was always ready to answer any question, solve any problem, and go where he was needed. He will be missed by many. Joe was a wonderful son and brother to his family. He was preceded in death by son, Ray Moore; mother and father and siblings, Geneva Buckman, Larry Cox and David Cox. He is survived by sisters, Kim Poissant of Tucson, AZ and Jane Lynch of Las Vegas, NV. and brothers, Billy Cox of Tucson, AZ, Carl Cox of Las Vegas, NV, Bennie Cox of Phoenix, AZ and Gary Cox of Phoenix, AZ. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Veronica and Adam. Joe was a wonderful husband, father, and PawPaw who doted on his family. He had numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Joe loved his great extended family and always had a good time at get-togethers during his vacations. Many happy and priceless memories were made over the years with the many camping and fishing trips. Joe always said his greatest accomplishments were his home, wife, children, and grandchildren. Family was always first and a career was just an added bonus that 'put beans on the table'. He was a man of impeccable, solid ethics who believed in the value of hard work to achieve rewards beyond material wealth. Joe's remains will be cremated by Carnes Funeral Home, Houston, TX. A Memorial Service to honor Joe and his life achievements will be held at an undecided date and setting.
