Harvey William Maier Jr.
May 9, 1951 – November 25, 2025
Harvey William Maier Jr., 74, of Texas City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born May 9, 1951, Harvey was a lifelong Texan, a Freeport resident in his youth, and a proud 1969 graduate of Brazosport High School.
Harvey’s life was defined by family, friendship, and hard work. In 1970, he married Theresa Farrar Maier, and together they welcomed their first of three daughters, Amber. The family later moved to Santa Fe, Texas, where they built their home and welcomed two more daughters, Angelyn and Alana. In later years, Harvey shared his life with Toni Riggin of Santa Fe, embracing her son, Drew Riggin, as his own and, together, welcoming two children, daughter Devin Maier and son Luke Maier. Harvey later found companionship with Brenda Kurtz, with whom he shared his days at their home in Texas City until his passing.
Harvey worked for many years as a proud Teamster. Skilled with his hands, he enjoyed carpentry and projects that allowed him to build and create. He loved sports and the outdoors, spending time playing men’s slow-pitch softball, golfing, hunting, fishing, and enjoying the water. Music was another passion, especially when he played his guitar.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey William Maier Sr. and Varnell Maier; his sisters Joyce Ann Curry and Dorothy Wainscott; and his brother James Donald Maier.
He is survived by his children: Amber Gareri and Husband Pete, Angelyn Cooper and Husband Matt, and Alana Wallen and Husband Chris; Devin Maier; Drew Riggin and Luke Maier; and six grandchildren: Jadyn Chancellor, Noah Wallen, Cayleigh Cooper, Evan Wallen, Adam Wallen, and Camille Cooper.
A celebration of life will be held at Carnes Funeral Home ( 3100 Gulf Fwy, Texas City, TX 77591) on Saturday, December 13, from 2–5 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor Harvey in the relaxed, come-as-you-are way he preferred.
