Gertude Janner Obituary (1921 - 2013)

Gertrude M. Janner, 91, long-time resident of San Leon, TX, passed away peacefully at her residence Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Her earthly journey has ended and her heavenly journey has begun. Gertrude was born September 21, 1921, in Brenham, TX. In 1942, she married Henry Janner, and that union produced three sons and one daughter. The Janners moved from Houston to San Leon in 1955 and opened their own business, Henry's Ice and Groceries. She was a founding member of the San Leon Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and belonged to the San Leon American Legion Post Auxiliary. In her retirement, Gertrude volunteered regularly at the Open Door thrift Shop in Dickinson. Gertrude was a woman of many talents. She possessed a green thumb and loved working in her flower beds and yard, created many beautiful crochet pieces for her family and friends, successfully ran a business and still found time to be an avid Dickinson Gator football fan. She also followed her favorite pro teams, the Houston Astros, the Houston Oilers, and the Houston Texans. Above all, she was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother (Babusha) and great grandmother. She spent many happy hours with her family and friends. She was an active member of the True Cross Catholic Church and thoroughly enjoyed many years as a part of the Women's Prayer Group. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Martha Twardowski, former husband, Henry Janner, and sister, Dorothy Daspit. Gertrude is survived by her children: Charles Janner and wife, Judy, of Texas City; Mark Janner and wife, Augustine, of LaMarque; Dennis Janner of San Leon; and Rose Ann Giles and husband, Kevin, of Dallas; sister, Adelee Osburn, of Spring, TX; grandchildren Shawn Miller, Damon Janner, William Giles, and Alistair Giles; great grandchild, Kamryn Janner; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, February 7, 2013, 6-8 p.m., at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City. A burial mass will be held Friday, February 8, 1 p.m., at True Cross Catholic Church in Dickinson, TX. She will be laid to rest in the San Leon Cemetery. Pallbearers, at her request, will be Charles Janner, Mark Janner, Damon Janner, William Giles, Alistair Giles, and Shawn Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Janner and Kamryn Janner. She fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith.
