George Henry Hiles Jr. Obituary (1943 - 2014)

George H. Hiles, Jr. was born March 30, 1943 in South Bend, Indiana, home of his beloved Notre Dame. Surrounded by family and friends, George went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 3, 2014. George was preceded in death by his loving parents, George H. Hiles, Sr. and Dorothy Hiles, and his brother Doug Hiles. George is survived by the love of his life, Nena Hiles. His little sister, Susie Hays and husband Dan. He is also survived by his loving children, Veronica Victoria and husband, Felipe; Armando Hiles and wife, Tootie; Phillip Lee Hiles, Celeste Zuniga and husband, Roy; Bryan Hiles, Tony Hiles, and David Hiles and wife, Sara. His devoted grandchildren who always brought him much joy: Alexa Hinojosa, Karissa Victoria, Veronica Victora, Thalia Hiles, Nenita Hiles, Maya Hiles, DeOnna Gross, Haley Harvey, Chris Crowe, Manny Hiles, Jacob Hiles, and Gabriel Hiles and devoted friends, Danny and Ann Thomasson and Gloria Castillo. Also left to mourn are his many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and close loving friends. George loyally served his country in the Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War (semper fi!) George retired from Union Carbide and enjoyed traveling and cruising where he was well known as "Elvis." George was a lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served in the choir and with the youth program AWANA. George had a passionate love for Notre Dame and all things "Irish"! 'Play Like A Champion Today." George was known and loved by many and never met a stranger. Everyone who ever met him, loved him. He will be so deeply missed. Arrangements pending at Carnes Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, January 9, 2014 with Memorial Service from 7-8, Pastor Hector Rodriquez officiating. Graveside services on Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery in Houston, procession leaving Carnes at 10:30 a.m. Pall bearers will be Danny Thomasson, Tito Rojas, David Ortiz, Sr., Freddy Gonzalez, Leo LaSoya, Carlos Escamilla, David Hiles. Honorary pallbearers will be Felipe Victoria, Paul Campbell, and Erasmo Escamilla. The family would like to request any interested family and friends who would like to honor his memory, to wear Notre Dame colors in his honor. Special thanks to Dr. Mersei and Amed Hospice for their loving care, especially Jonathan Rojas, Polly, Julia, Henry, Ruben, Neecie, Diane, Jennifer, Hazel, and LT, and countless others.
