Gabriel Andres Martinez of Texas City, TX passed away on Tuesday July 12, 2011 at UTMB Galveston, TX after an illness. He was born in Galveston, TX on November 27, 1944 to Lorenzo and Carmen Martinez. From August 1967 until April 1969, he served in the US Army enforcing Korea's Demilitarized Zone. Upon his discharge, he joined the US Army Reserve and served until 1973. He attended The University of Houston and enjoyed a fulfilling 40 year career as a Master Electrician and I & E Technician. He later was an adjunct Professor for the Electrician Apprentice Program at College of The Mainland in Texas City, TX.\nHe is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margie Martinez; son, Jason Martinez and wife, Winona Martinez; grandson, Gabriel Martinez; brother, Lawrence Martinez; sisters, Patricia Perez, Mary Carmen Martinez, Lorraine Johnson and Anna Maria Castro and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends by whom he was much loved and will be dearly missed.\nA Vigil and Rosary will be held Thursday, July 21, 2011 beginning at 6:00 PM. The Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM. Both services will be held at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591. The Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church located at 1604 Ninth Avenue North, Texas City, TX 77590. Father Tom Ponzini is the Celebrant.
