Frances Victoria Prince Obituary (1933 - 2020)

Frances Victoria Prince, affectionately known as Vicky, Aunt Vicky, and grandma was born on May 1, 1933 to the Union of Hubert and Leah Prince in Smithfield, Westmoreland, Jamaica. Vicky received her early education at Georges Plain Primary School and Frome Senior School in Westmoreland, Jamaica. Our beloved Aunt Vicky accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was united with St. Peter's Methodist Church in Frome, Westmorland. Vicky migrated from Jamaica in search of better opportunities for her children and family. She first resided in the United Kingdom in 1960 where she worked in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. Vicky was not afforded many opportunities in the United Kingdom, therefore, she decided to migrate to the United States with the help of her brother. Vicky's elder brother Eduardo Jose Principe sponsored her as a permanent resident of the United States in 1968. Subsequently, she joined her brother in New York City. Upon arrival in New York, Frances worked as a jeweler and later transitioned to the healthcare industry, where she worked as a Nursing Assistant at Split Rock Nursing Home for 24 years. She advanced her education at George Washington High School where she earned her GED. Vicky met and married Richard Benjamin Barton on December 19,1976. From that union they produced a daughter, Mrs. Scherleen Barton-Williams. Vicky's children Verna Fay Gordon, Khalfani Omari Fullerton, and Scherleen Judy Williams were the apple of her eyes. Khalfani and Verna joined their loving mother in New York two months after Scherleen's birth. Frances later relocated to Missouri City, Texas in 1998. She was a member of Southwest Community Baptist Church. In her leisure time, Frances enjoyed reading her BIBLE, baking, and listening to music. She consistently visited her beloved Jamaica every summer to spend time with family and friends. Aunt Vicky's arrival was always eagerly anticipated because of the joy, smiles, and love she brought to many lives. Additionally, we knew she had shipped a barrel filled with gifts ahead of her trip, which would coincidentally arrive just in time for the visit. Aunt Vicky is survived by her sister Ruth Brown, her children Verna, Khalfani, Scherleen, special niece Juliet, two sons-in-law Michael and Errol, grandchildren Michael Jr., Matthew, Celine, Alesandra, Erron, Khalfani, Conrad, and Jaden. Several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and special childhood friends Myrlzeta(cousin), Sylvan, Eda, Cissy, Ruby, Cynthia. Aunt Vicky lived an exemplary life in service to the Lord, her family, and friends. She had an infectious personality and an enthusiastic spirit which we will always remember. She was a stern disciplinarian who showed love, compassion, and care to everyone she met. Our beloved Aunt Vicky will rest peacefully in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The family would like to give special acknowledgment, love and appreciation to the following individuals who cared for Aunt Vicky as compassionately as they would one of their family members. We know our beloved Aunt Vicky could be a handful at times. However, each of you never let it bother you, and you treated her with the highest level of professionalism and care. In time you came to understand her, and the journey became easier. As a family we would like to recognize your commitment and compassion; we will be eternally grateful. The Williams family would like to personally thank you for coming into their home and effortlessly caring for Aunt Vicky. By extension, you all became honorary members of our family. The family will receive visitors beginning at 11:30 at in the chapel of Carnes Funeral Home at 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591. The Homegoing Service will begin at 1PM. Please come prepared to follow a Covid safety protocol, which will include the wearing of a mask by all visitors and social distancing.
