Charles William "Bill" Gribble Jr. Obituary (1944

A life long Houstonian, Bill Gribble passed away at St. Luke's Hospital on March 23, 2023. Born August 16, 1944 to Charles William Gribble, Jr. and Clara Frances Louise Cook Gribble, Bill attended Sutton Elementary and St. John's School, where he had many happy memories. He graduated with a BA and MA from Stephen F. Austin College where he made life long friends. After his father's death in 1971, Bill became president of Gribble Stamp & Stencil Co. which opened in 1892. There he helped and served others with their marking device needs until the closure of the business in 2016. His freedom from work was easily celebrated on Texas Independence Day, April 21st, a double history major, Bill did enjoy the irony. He wed Kim V. Benson on November 26, 1983. Married for thirty-eight years, Bill and Kim enjoyed entertaining and being with friends. Five years ago they moved to a home where they cherished the new backyard and the joy of sharing it with friends and neighbors. Bill loved baseball, music, playing banjo, singing in the church choir, and The Gilbert and Sullivan Society's yearly performances. He was also a member of the Marking Device Association and Houston Rotary Club. An avid reader, he was working through the Great Books Collection and was last studying the second book on Thomas Aquinas. He daily emailed and talked with his friends, sharing funny stories and other life's offerings. He was predeceased by his parents, and sister, Clara Cook Haugaard. He is survived by his wife, Kim, son, Charles W. Gribble IV, and Chiana, who purred him awake for her breakfast every morning. Also a sister, Millie Williams. His life will be celebrated in the backyard he so loved, April 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., 10602 Endicott Lane. Donations are welcome to Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, the Gribble Chair; Millie Tutt Cook Scholarship Fund at Rice University, honoring his maternal grandmother; or a charity of your choice.
