Alyne W. Duke Obituary (1929 - 2016)

Alyne W. Duke passed away January 13th, 2016, in Texas City. She was born August 22nd, 1929, in Cary, Mississippi to Ed and Mary McLemore Warnock. At the age of five, the family moved to a farm in Germania, MS where Alyne attended elementary and high school at Satartia, MS. After high school, she attended Hines Junior College for a year and a half before dropping out to get married. She married Donald A. Duke on December 26, 1948, and the moved to San Diego, California, where Don was stationed aboard a destroyer. They lived there until the ship was sent to Bremerton, WA, to go into dry dock. Two weeks later they were transferred back to San Diego to board a destroyer tender which was being transferred to Norfolk, Virginia. They stayed there until Don was discharged. They moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in January, 1950, and stayed there until Don graduated from Georgia Tech. She received a degree of Mistress of Engineer Husbandry. From there they moved to Texas City, Texas. They were transferred to El Dorado, Arkansas, and then lived in New Orleans, Louisanna, and Morristown, Tennessee, and five years later moved back to Texas City, Texas where they have lived ever since. While Alyne was mostly a devoted housewife and mother, she did work some. While in Atlanta, Alyne worked as secretary to the president of a mortgage loan company while we were in college. She worked as an aide at Texas City High School for one year and worked for Macy's for about 8 years. She is preceded in death by parents, twin sister, Carlyne Guion, younger sister, Eddye Rae McKnight, and brother-in-law, Lewis McKnight, Alyne is survived by loving husband of sixty-seven years, Don Duke; daughters, Donna Lewis (Emmett) and Beth Jacobson (Eric); grandson, Chad Lewis; granddaughter, Angela Nowell (Matt); granddaughter, Lara Jacobson, and grandson, John Jacobson. Alyne has been a member of Texas City First Baptist Church for more than fifty years. She was active in Sunday School, both as a member and a teacher and also worked in vacation bible school. Guests are invited to share in the Celebration of Life Visitation for Alyne from 4-6p.m., Sunday, January 17th, 2016 at Carnes Funeral Home -Texas City, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas 77591. Funeral Services will start 11a.m. Monday, January 18th, 2016 at Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City. Interment will follow at Forest Park - East Cemetery in Webster.
