Marcus Gerald 'Jerry' Sullivan Sr. Obituary (1938 - 2016)

Jerry Sullivan Marcus Gerald "Jerry" Sullivan, Sr. was born November 15, 1938 in Galveston, Texas. He passed away peacefully on January 11, 2016 at the age of seventy-seven at Houston Hospice in Houston, Texas. He was the son of the late J. S. and Berta Sullivan of Texas City. Preceded in death by stepson, Heath Morris. He is survived by wife, Judy of Texas City, Texas; sister, Zenobia Martin of Houston; sons, Chris Sullivan and wife Annie of Friendswood and Mark Sullivan; stepdaughters, Tracie Brown and husband Bobby of Texas City, Texas and Danielle Beeson and husband Chris of Texas City; grandson, West Sullivan; step- grandchildren, Brett Morris and wife Cali, Jamie Brown, James Johnston, Brandon Vega, Cassidy Johnston, Zander, Carly and Makayla Morris; step great-grandchildren, Jude and Ryan Morris, Rylee Vega. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jerry was a lifetime resident of Texas City, Texas proud United States Air Force veteran, a loving family man and friend. He joined the Air Force shortly after graduating high school and was honorably discharged after eight years of service. He worked for Texas City National Bank, McClain's Inc as a sales representative and finished his career in sales with Alfred Conhagen, Inc. It is very well known by those close to him that he never met a stranger. He marveled at babies and kids and would even be nice enough to wake a sleeping baby in a restaurant to let the parents know how cute he thought the baby was - much to the chagrin of the new parents having a rare quiet meal. He had a soul that was tender and sweet to the core. His wife, Judy, was the love of his life and he was truly only happy when he was by her side. He loved barbecue cook-offs, camping with the Texas City Travelers, dancing to anything the band would play. His Miller Lite or Bud Light would never be far from reach in the evenings. The culmination of a stroke over five years ago and the onset of mixed dementia at that time began to take his cognitive abilities and his mobility slowly away but it never broke his loving spirit. He blessed us with his Cheshire grin many times while he was being cared for in hospice. Each one was a blessing and maybe a way for him to let us know he was okay, if not, just for our own selfish emotions to help us feel we were doing the right thing for him. We wish to recognize the tireless work of the Houston Hospice staff in caring for Jerry and also giving us the emotional support we needed as we navigated through this final journey with him.
