Kay Richards Howton Obituary (1953

On the morning of January 5, 2022 Kay Richards Howton peacefully and gracefully joined her Father in Heaven. The battle with cancer for many years has finally been replaced with peace and joy. Kay was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Ken Howton, and a dedicated Mother to her Daughter Lauren Hines and Grandson, Lofton Tipton. She is survived by her Brother Alton Richards his wife Dyane, Sisters, Lynada Martin with Andy McCraw, and Julie Ford, and her husband Darrell. Born in Houston, Texas May 2, 1953 she grew up in Cleveland, Tx, which she lovingly referred to as "Behind the Pine Curtain". Attending Cleveland High School, her passion was music and became a member of the High School Marching Band and played the French Horn. Upon graduation she attended Lamar University where she was a member of the Lamar Marching Band. Uniform repairs on trips to away Football games were one her specialties. The oil and gas field was a natural draw for Kay. She began her career at Tenneco and decided the more specialized companies would suit her best. She retired December 31, 2021 from Pedevco where the company and job became a very close knit family. Kay felt very blessed for all the love and support from those she worked with. Kay's love of life with her unwavering gift of loving everyone will be missed. Her caring spirit was a blessing to anyone who knew her and making friends was as easy as taking a breath. Outdoor adventures were a true passion for her and the many camping trips with both family and friends made her smile and became a constant source of peace. Lifelong friendships came from these trips, as well as many laughter filled nights sitting around the campfire. Kay's faith was the absolute cornerstone of her life. Her morning and evening "Jesus visits" strengthened her and filled her with love. The gift she provided through her faith was singing. She sang to God, and did it all the time, everywhere. A member of a small group, First Praise, allowed Kay to share her gift in many Churches and venues. Kay held a special place in her heart for all those in the group and reminisced often. Kay's final gift was her personal donation of herself to UT Health. Selfless in every aspect of her life and sincere belief in doing for others made this an easy decision for her.
