Hazel Adele Carney Obituary (1934 - 2016)

Hazel Adele Womack Carney, cook book connoisseur and card master, passed away July 9, 2016 surrounded by the love of her family and the fantastic care givers at Clear Brook Rehabilitation Center. When asked to describe Hazel "Nene" Carney words used would be, "elegant, funny, loving, stubborn, giving, advice giver and story teller" just to name a few. There to greet Hazel on her birth in Tyler, Texas in 1934 were her parent's Frank and Hazel Francis Womack and her sister Mary-Ann. Hazel graduated from Tyler High School in 1951. She met the love of her life in a marriage that lasted 45 years, Luther L Carney . During their marriage they visited different countries, made friends, raised two wonderful children - Cene Davis and Denise Carney both of Houston, Texas and created countless memories that were shared and loved by those who were honored enough to hear them. Hazel has been greeted at the Pearly Gates by both her parents, her sister Mary-Ann Cain, the love of her life Luther L Carney and her youngest daughter Denise Carney. Left to remember her laughter, her love of cooking and her card games are: her loving daughter Cene Davis, her son in law Frank Davis, granddaughters Melanie Davis, Vanessa Davis, Whitney Martin and Kathleen Abernathy, her brother in laws Gene Carney and Donald Whitson. Besides the 4 granddaughters, Hazel has 10 great grandchildren who learned to depend on Hazel's love and support just as much as her daughters and her grandchildren. Hazel loved to go to plays, the movies, festivals and listen to music. Her memory never faltered even when her health did. Never one to let anyone tell her what to do or how to do it is how she lived her life and how she greeted death. Head strong and beautiful are words that will eternally be words used by those who loved her. Keep that lipstick on Nene, until we see you again. Her services will be held at Veterans Cemetery on a date still to be determined.
