Charles Leon Mitchell Obituary (1943 - 2012)

Charles Leon Mitchell was born in Galveston, TX on Oct. 31, 1943. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at the age of 68 at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in Webster, TX. He is preceded in death by parents, Ben Leon and Marguerite Palmer Mitchell and sister, Catherine Mitchell. Charles is survived by brothers, Byron (Pat) Gripp; Donnie (Josie) Mitchell; Kenneth (Bonnie) Mitchell, and sisters, Janey (Lavon) Smith and Leona Cansler. Charles had 13 nieces and nephews; 8 great nieces and nephews and 8 great-great nieces and nephews. Charles was a lifelong resident of Texas City having worked at Mitchell's Service Station and then at his parents business, B & M Trophies. He was an avid collector of coins and memorabilia. Charles helped raise his many nieces and nephews and was known as their sweet "Uncle Charlie" to all his loving family. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and Home Going Services will be Thursday morning, January 26, 2012 at 10:00 am. Both services will be at Carnes Funeral Home-Texas City 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX . Interment will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
