Lucy Nadine “Lil Gran” Reed, 83, peacefully died at her home surrounded by her family on July 1, 2012, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born on November 4, 1928 to John and Josephine Carter in Mansfield, Missouri.

Mrs. Reed graduated from Mansfield High School in 1946 and two years later married Bill Reed. They lived in Springfield, Missouri where she worked as a telephone operator until they moved to Texas City in 1960. She also taught kindergarten in a Christian school for several years, as well as teaching Sunday school for over 50 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Texas City. She was known for her great love for children, serving coffee at her kitchen table, cooking and shopping.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josephine Carter; her husband, Bill Reed; brothers, Coy Carter (Jewell), Joe Carter, and Raymond Carter; and her sister, Ruth Pruett (Bob).

She is survived by three children; Mike Reed (Gracie), Pam May (Ken), and Sandy Knight (Darrell); grandchildren, Jaime Wiltshire (Kevin), Aaron May (Fondren), Shawna  Larson (Aaron), and Darrell Knight (Tamara); great-grandchildren, Katie, Hunter and Joshua Wiltshire, Will and Carter Larson, and Joshua and Braxton Wright; many nieces; nephews; friends and wonderful loving neighbors.

The visitation will be held at Carnes Funeral Home on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 6 pm until 8 pm. The funeral services will be held at Carnes Funeral Home on Friday at 10 am with a graveside service to follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park with Bro. Joe Giles officiating both services.

Pall Bearers will be Ken May, Darrell Knight, Aaron May, Darrell W. Knight Kevin Wiltshire and Aaron Larson.
