Donasiano Eliaz

Donasiano Eliaz passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 13, 2012.  Mr. Eliaz was born in Galveston, Texas on May 24, 1927.  He lived most of his life in Galveston and Texas City.

He worked many years at Todd’s Shipyards and as a Merchant Marine.  Our father was very dedicated to his faith, family, and grandchildren.  He enjoyed growing roses, caring for his dogs, watching the Astro’s, boxing, and cooking menudo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Agapita Eliaz, sister Maria Casares, brothers Antolino and Jose Eliaz; son-in-law Frank Lara, and his dear cousin Leonora Trevino.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Manuela R. Eliaz; brother-in-law Liborio Ruiz and wife Vangie; sister-in-law Theresa Ruiz; niece Esperanza Esquivel from Monterrey, Mexico; daughters Marie Eliaz-Lara; Sara Moreno and husband Dwayne; Sylvia Bostelmann and husband Richard; sons Antonio and wife Paula; John and wife Dolores; Joe and wife Carol; Jesse and wife Allison.  Grandchildren Anthony, Stephanie, Kimberly, Gabriel, Lilly, Claire, and Brenna Eliaz; Briana and Elessa Lara; Angela and Sammy Moreno, Joshua Bostelmann, and many great grandchildren and extended family of Rosie and Melvin Senegal and Ernestine Moreno; special neighbors R C and Darlene Conway; and his best friend, his dog, Fida.

Pallbearers are Jesse Eliaz, Joe Eliaz, Dwayne Moreno, Anthony Eliaz, Gabriel Eliaz, and Dwayne Senegal.  Honorary pallbearers are Tony Eliaz, John Eliaz, Richard Bostelmann, Liborio Ruiz, Rob Cuellar, Jose Mata, Andrew Eliaz, Jacob Eliaz, and Marcus Eliaz.

Visitation will be held at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX from 5:00 pm till 7:00 on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.  The Rosary and wake will follow at 7:00 pm.  A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 1604 9th Ave N in Texas City, TX. 

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and kindness, especially the nursing team from Altus Hospice who took such great care of our dad and our family.

Reception immediately following Mass in the Ponzini Family Life Center located behind the church.
